Confirmed rare bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the seven days preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, Jan. 14 included the following, recorded on the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s eBird website:
Pacific Loon, Gavia pacifica. Two scoped at Race Point on Jan. 13.
Short-eared Owl, Asio flammeus. One at Race Point on Jan. 13.
Tree Swallow, Tachycineta bicolor. One at Fort Hill on Jan. 12.
Black Guillemot, Cepphus grylle mandtii. Thirty-one sightings at MacMillan Pier on Jan. 11.
Pomarine Jaeger, Stercorarius pomarinus. One at Race Point on Jan. 8.
