Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, Sept. 1, included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
Another rare and out-of-season Pacific Loon was photographed at Race Point in Provincetown this week; other sightings there included an amazing 5 Buff-breasted Sandpipers, a Baird’s Sandpiper, 2 Sabine’s Gulls, 1,800 Roseate Terns, 1,700 Common Terns, a Black Tern, and 4 species of shearwater including 400 Sooty Shearwaters.
Lark Sparrows were noted in multiple parts of Provincetown this week.
A Common Ringed Plover was reported from Head of the Meadow in Truro.
A Philadelphia Vireo was sighted in Wellfleet.
A Harlequin Duck was seen in Nauset Marsh in Eastham. Olive-sided Flycatchers were also seen in Eastham.
