ORLEANS — The Orleans Firebirds dropped a game for the first time in five outings, falling to the Bourne Braves last Friday, but they remained at .500 (6-6-2) through 14 games.
Outfielder Travis Honeyman from Massapequa, N.Y. went 6 for 13 at the plate, including two doubles, in three games. Honeyman plays for Boston College. The University of Louisville’s Isaac Humphrey drove in two runs in a 3-for-4 performance against Harwich in his Cape League debut for the Firebirds.
The Orleans bats cooled off in the 4-2 loss to Bourne, leaving 10 on base.
Donye Evans has been strong on the hill, giving up just four hits and one run in seven innings pitched this season. The right-hander from Lithonia, Ga. and Vanderbilt has tallied six strikeouts.
The Firebirds were scheduled to play Cotuit and Chatham on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
Bourne 4, Orleans 2

Orleans 4, Harwich 1
Orleans rebounded for a 4-1 victory at Harwich on Saturday, June 25. It was another pitchers’ duel, as the two teams combined for seven scoreless innings. The Firebirds broke the game open, however, with a three-run 6th inning to take a 4-1 lead. Bennett Lee drove in two runs with a bases-clearing triple before scoring on an RBI single off the bat of Isaac Humphrey. Orleans then gave up just one run on four hits to close out the win.
Cotuit 7, Orleans 3
Cotuit picked up a victory in the first game of a double-header on Sunday, June 26. The Kettleers broke a 2-2 tie by scoring two runs in the third inning and padded the lead in the following two frames to lead 6-3. Orleans had just one hit in the final three innings.
Orleans 0, Cotuit 0
Orleans and Cotuit combined for just five hits in Game 2 of the Sunday double-header, which ended in a scoreless tie. Donye Evans blanked the Kettleers in his four innings of action, giving up two hits, while Ty Johnson allowed just one hit with four strikeouts in the same stretch for the Kettleers.
