EASTHAM — The no. 20-ranked Nauset Regional High School baseball team came up short in its bid to upset No. 13 Westfield High School, falling 5-4 at Westfield’s Bullens Field in the MIAA Div. 2 State Tournament on Monday.
Nauset led 4-2 behind a grand slam off the bat of senior Max Dio before Westfield rallied to score three runs in the bottom of the 7th to secure the right to face North Attleboro in the round of 16.
The no. 23-ranked Warriors boys tennis team and no. 34-seeded girls tennis team were also knocked out of the Div. 2 tournament following defeats to no. 10 Mansfield and no. 31 Walpole, respectively.
The boys claimed the opening match before Mansfield won the final four to win 4-1. The girls, meanwhile, dropped a heartbreaker after losing 3-2 in a third-set tiebreaker in the final doubles match.
The no. 14-ranked Nauset boys lacrosse team was scheduled to host no. 19 Burlington in the round of 32 on Wednesday, June 8. —Allen Gunn
