Finally, this year of folly finishes with a full Moon in the watery sign of Cancer, the Moon’s zodiacal domicile. Ruler of the realms of home and family, Cancer is also the sign of emergence — coming into being — associated with the summer solstice when the efforts of spring culminate in the bounty of summer.
Likewise, the results of our efforts come to fruition under a full Moon. This one, at the tail end of a challenging year, bears the fruit of poignant lessons. Under this Moon and at this moment in history, our perception of the world may be rather subjective. Emotions may be running high. The Cancerian elements of safety, belonging, and shelter in our lives may be disrupted. How can we emerge from it all with both a hardened shell and a sympathetic outlook?
Our takeaway from this year may be to forgive its failures but not forget them. And even while remembering what’s past, we might also choose to live in the present — for it is in each and every moment that the future emerges. To be here now, then, is the truly momentous act. The fallen fruit does not look back at the tree. It roots and then it blooms.
