Shellfish Farmers Market Returns
The Wellfleet Shellfishermen’s Farmers Market begins again at the Wellfleet pier from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Dec. 1. The market will then continue on Saturdays from Dec. 4 to May 1.
The market first opened in December 2020 as a collaboration between the town and the Wellfleet Shellfishermen’s Association (WSA) to allow sales of shellfish to consumers after restaurants closed because of the pandemic. The market provided a way to comply with the Massachusetts law that places limits on the ways shellfish may be sold directly to consumers.
This year, the market is being managed by the WSA.
Sellers are Wellfleet commercial fishermen who can opt in on a week-by-week basis. Products and prices are posted at wellfleetshellfishermen.org.
Wanted: School Committee Member
The select board is seeking a volunteer resident to fill a vacant seat on the Wellfleet Elementary School Committee following the resignation of Nancy Pontius on Nov. 18.
The volunteer will be appointed to serve until the next town election, when that person could then run for the seat, said select board chair Ryan Curley.
“We want to get the appointment made by January because the school budget is going to be reviewed at that point, and it would be helpful to have a full board,” Curley said. —Michaela Chesin
