An exhibit of paintings by Miah Nate Johnson opens at Wellfleet Preservation Hall, 335 Main St., on Friday, April 2nd. The show is on view Tuesday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., through May 13th. Several years ago, Johnson suffered a stroke that left him unable to work as a photographer or oysterman. “The work you see,” he writes, “is art that I have produced during my recovery process.”

There’s a Hitch
Join Marc Strauss for “Atypical Hitchcock,” a virtual film series via Wellfleet Preservation Hall. Jazzed Up
Singer-songwriter Eleanor Dubinsky and guitarist Dario Acosta Teich are giving a virtual concert of jazz, Latin, French, popular, and original songs via Wellfleet Preservation Hall on Thursday, March 25th, at 7 p.m. Registration is free at wellfleetpreservationhall.org. The deadline for the hall’s Wellfleet Youth Film Festival has been extended to Wednesday, March 31st. Filmmakers ages 8 to 18 are encouraged to apply. Winners will be announced mid-April.
Irish Rose
Among the virtual events offered at Wellfleet Preservation Hall this week are Rose Plays Julie, an Irish film about a woman who tracks down her biological parents, streaming Friday, March 19th through April 15th for $10. The Band’s Visit

“Mixing Spirits & Mysteries,” a virtual film and cocktail series hosted by Marc Strauss, continues via Wellfleet Preservation Hall on Wednesday, March 10th, 6 p.m. with Les Diaboliques, a French psychological horror flick directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot. It’s about the wife of a loathsome prep-school headmaster who plots her husband’s murder with the help of his mistress. Test Pattern, a 2020 film by Shatara Michelle Ford, is part of the “Fine Features Film Series” at Wellfleet Preservation Hall, available for streaming Friday, February 19th through March 12. A five-day viewing pass is $12 at wellfleetpreservationhall.org.
The film, part psychological horror, part realist drama, is about a Black woman who is sexually assaulted and taken from hospital to hospital in search of a rape kit by her white boyfriend. Their story reveals the inequalities surrounding health care in America.

An ‘Infinitely’ Fascinating Documentary
Wellfleet Preservation Hall continues its Doc Days Film Series with M.C. Escher: Journey to Infinity, streaming online beginning Friday, February 5th. A five-day viewing pass is $12 at wellfleetpreservationhall.org. The film, directed by Robin Lutz and narrated by Stephen Fry, concerns the Dutch graphic artist Maurits Cornelis Escher, whose mind-bending works are instantly recognizable. It consists of interviews with Escher’s two sons, George and Jan, as well as the musician Graham Nash, who helped revive interest in Escher’s work in the 1970s.

Robert Shreefter Digs Deep at Preservation Hall
“Excavating: Time & Place,” an exhibition of silkscreen prints by Robert Shreefter at Wellfleet Preservation Hall, at 335 Main St., opens Friday, January 29th. The hall is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is also a virtual artist chat on February 18th at 5 p.m.
Shreefter is the curator of the Off Main Gallery in Wellfleet. “My fascination with printmaking is personal: as the son and grandson of printers, I feel that printmaking allows me to pay tribute to the craft my father and grandfather practiced,” writes Shreefter in an artist statement. He is also drawn to the repeatable nature of printmaking, which “holds an element of surprise.”
Dummy Up
