Warren James Silva of Provincetown died peacefully surrounded by his family at Tobey Hospital in Wareham on Oct. 31, 2022. He was 87.

Warren was born to the late James & Eva (Pierce) Silva on March 18, 1935 and attended the Provincetown Schools. Because his cheeks were so rosy when he was a baby, or perhaps because his mother, expecting a girl, had knitted all kinds of pink baby things, which she used even though Warren was a boy, he acquired the nickname “Pinky.”

Pinky had dirt on his boots from a very young age. He was as fearless on the back of a horse as he was at the controls of his backhoe or crane. He worked at his father’s excavating company and then branched out on his own as Warren J. Silva, Contractor.

He founded Cape Cod Excavating in 1985 and ran it until his retirement 10 years ago. The company is now run by his eldest son, James.

Warren married Rita Malloy in 1975. They had five children, three sons and two daughters, and were married for 47 years.

Pinky liked to pull tabs with his friends at the Provincetown VFW; he enjoyed going out to dinner with friends and family as well. He especially looked forward to his weekly trip to the Double Dragon.

He leaves his beloved wife, Rita; his son Jimmy and wife Carissa (Henrique), and grandchildren Neely and Collin of Provincetown; his sons Warren Jr. and Edward and daughters Denise and Tamara; his sister, Shirley Cabral; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Warren was predeceased by his brother, Richard Silva.

Visiting hours were held on Nov. 12 at the Nickerson Funeral Home in Wellfleet. A graveside service followed at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Provincetown.
