“I’m Black, I sing, I play an acoustic guitar, and I don’t play the blues,” says Vance Gilbert, a folk musician who “defies stereotypes.” He is performing at the Payomet Performing Arts Center’s Ballfield Drive-In, 29 Old Dewline Road in Truro, on Saturday, May 22nd, at 4 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 at payomet.org.
Gilbert has shared stages with Aretha Franklin, Arlo Guthrie, Shawn Colvin, Anita Baker, and comedian George Carlin. He has released 13 albums, the most recent being Good Good Man, which came out last year. Among the songs for which he is known: “Unfamiliar Moon,” “Pie and Whiskey,” “Old White Men,” and “Goodbye Pluto.”
