The Provincetown Commons, at 46 Bradford St., has two shows opening Tuesday, May 18th and running through May 30th. “Not Always Just Sometimes” is an exhibit of paintings and prints by Maria Negulescu. “Surf & Turf” is an exhibit of seafood-inspired oil paintings by Caroline Carney. The Commons is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Guts and Glory,” the spring open call show at The Provincetown Commons, opens on Thursday, April 1st and runs through April 30th. It will be both online, at provincetowncommons.org, and in person at 46 Bradford St. The theme is “strength and beauty, struggle and triumph, and fame and splendor,” according to the description.
Provincetown’s Jim Broussard had the idea of getting artists to paint cigar boxes as a fund-raising effort, which he’s dubbed “Art From the Heart.” He hopes to make it an annual ritual, with a different nonprofit benefitting each year.
He asked dozens of artists to participate, and about 50 did. The result is a colorful, inspiring collection of works — some painterly, some sculptural, some done up inside and out. They’ll be on display at the Provincetown Commons, at 46 Bradford St., starting Monday, Nov. 2, through Nov. 30. All are for sale, affordably priced from $50 to $500, and going fast.
For 2020, Broussard picked Helping Our Women as beneficiary. HOW is an organization that provides support for women on the Outer Cape with chronic, life-threatening, or disabling medical conditions. He saw this as a way to honor the women in his life and those in Provincetown who selflessly supported gay men during the AIDS crisis. One hundred percent of the proceeds from “Art From the Heart” will go to HOW.

The Provincetown Commons, at 46 Bradford St., is having a show of the original artwork that went into making its 2021 deck of 54 artist playing cards (including two jokers) that’s on sale at provincetowncommons.org for $50 each (with discounts if you buy more than one).
The 2021 deck follows a similar artists’ project last year. All proceeds go to help support the Commons, a facility for emerging businesses in town and arts-related projects.
