The First Encounter Coffeehouse at Chapel in the Pines in Eastham has been a tradition for 46 years. Since the pandemic, however, the coffeehouse’s popular concerts have been on hold. Instead, there will be a virtual concert by singer-songwriter David Roth on Wednesday, October 28th, at 7 p.m. via Zoom, followed by an afterparty. Tickets are by donation at firstencounter.org.
The show will feature a performance by Roth interspersed with footage of the chapel, as well as short videos of seven of the organizers reminiscing about the coffeehouse. “I was hoping to differentiate it from the millions of other virtual concerts from people’s messy homes,” Roth tells the Independent.
He will sing original songs about Cape Cod, including one about building his house in Orleans, to the tune of “House of the Rising Sun.” Roth says the aim of the concert, which will take place just before the election, is to help foster a sense of community. —Saskia Maxwell Keller
