The Alden Gallery, 423 Commercial St. in Provincetown, has a show of works by Paul Kelly and Mike Wright opening Friday, July 23rd and running through August 5th. There will be an opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Kelly paints colorful, perspective-shifting canvases informed by his background as an architect and city planner. “The art of Hopper, Thibaud, Diebenkorn, and Nicolas de Staël are significant influences,” he says in a statement. Wright creates sculptures out of wood found exclusively in Provincetown. Drawn to the “peeling paint, the color scrubbed by salty waves, sand, or human use,” Wright is careful never to repaint the wood, as “its patina is impossible to duplicate.” The gallery is open daily, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday through Saturday, 6 to 9 p.m.
