Running through Aug. 15 at Bakker Gallery is a contemporary group show featuring Susan Pecora, Megan Hinton, John Laporta, and Andrea Sawyer. The gallery, located at 359 Commercial St. in Provincetown, is open Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, noon to 5 p.m.; Friday, 2 to 8 p.m. The show is also viewable at artsy.net.
Pecora presents summery, illustrative streetscapes and familiar bay views, as well as calm and warm interior scenes such as Late Afternoon. Megan Hinton abstracts recognizable local subject matter (as in Buoys and Dune Fence) with angular brushstrokes that are softened by the texture of built-up oil paint in rich colors. John Laporta’s Pastorale II and other atmospheric landscapes portray the drama and reflective qualities of Cape Cod’s water, land, and sky. Andrea Sawyer’s square-format oil paintings capture Provincetown’s distinctive lighting, from the perspective of a person on the street in Red Door, or from a table across the room in Chach.
