    A Collage of Technicolor Curiosities

    When you have hundreds, throwaway plastic objects are art

    “We prefer to say that we’ve curated a collection rather than decorated a house,” Robert Rindler says about the Wellfleet home he shares with his husband, James Connors. To wander the exhibit halls of their post-and-beam house is to meander through a dreamscape of curiosities.

    Restored plastic
    Rindler spends hours repurposing plastics that would have otherwise been trashed. “One piece is an object. Two is a pair. Three pieces begin a circular conversation, and you have a collection. When you have 100, it becomes art.” This mantra guides his obsession.

    Rindler’s art, made from tens of thousands of brightly colored plastics, exposes the excess of a culture bent on disposability. Arranged in the couple’s home, it blurs the lines between high and low and toys with what is whimsical or profound.
