Provincetown, Dec. 4, 1:41 p.m.: Norm Torvill is restoring benches on MacMillan Pier. He’s also getting ready to move to Iowa, where an old Army buddy tells him life is good. “I don’t want to work my summers away anymore,” he says. The Vermont native arrived in Truro 19 months ago for a job managing Bayview Cottages on Shore Road and doing maintenance on the pier. His love for the ocean brought him here, but now, he says, the low pay and demanding work schedule are driving him away. “I’m excited to not work seven days a week,” he says. “I want to take some time and go traveling in the mountain states.” Going to Iowa with Torvill are his boat — an Aquasport 175 Osprey that he plans to take out on lakes — and his black goldendoodle, Wendy. “She’s usually hanging around here somewhere,” he says. —Elias Duncan
