Margaret Ann Murphy died on June 29, 2025 at her home in Provincetown, surrounded by the people she cherished most. She was 83.

Margie was born on Oct. 25, 1941 in Hudson to the late Nicholas and Caroline (Mancini) Schiappa. She was raised on Carter Street as one of seven siblings. After graduating from Hudson High School with the class of 1959, Margie worked as a research records and statistical assistant at Cushing Hospital in Framingham. She also worked as a counselor for Together Incorporated, a nonprofit in Hudson and Marlborough that she helped organize. Together Inc. provided emotional support, guidance, and educational resources to help young people navigate the challenges of substance abuse. Margie also made many friends working at Consolidated Group in Southborough.
Margie met her husband of 60 years, Donald Murphy, in Provincetown; they married in 1965 in Hudson. Once they had children, Margie became a full-time mother. She also took great pride in welcoming tenants at Our Summer Place in Provincetown, building lasting relationships with those who stayed. Margie was active in the Provincetown community, volunteering alongside Donald at the West End Racing Club and for the Provincetown Portuguese Festival and the Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta.
For her family, Our Summer Place was filled with love, laughter, and memories. Nothing brought her more happiness than the simple joy of having all her grandchildren at her home during the summer.
Margie loved to read and could lose herself in a good book for hours. Lifetime movies and Murder She Wrote were two of her favorite escapes. She also had a playful side, especially when it came to gambling. Whether it was a trip to the casino or a scratch ticket, she embraced it with lighthearted fun and laughter. Margie especially adored having friends and family join her on the deck for cocktail parties, cookouts, and celebrations.

Margie is survived by her husband, Donald Murphy of Provincetown; daughter Brenda Blacklock and husband Brian of Panton, Vt. and their son, Logan, and wife Maia of Addison, Vt. and their children, Bennett and Harper; daughter Debbie Thompson and husband Kennie of Dighton and their daughters, Caroline, Emma, and Lily; and daughter Rebecca Van Cleave and husband Ben of Wellfleet. She also leaves her brother, Michael Schiappa, and wife Daughn of St. Cloud, Fla.; her sister, Jean Graves, of Charlton; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Nicholas Schiappa and Gil Schiappa and her sisters Antoinette Bishop and Julia Sedore.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12. Family and friends are invited to gather at the parish hall immediately following the Mass.
