Kelly was an American actor, dancer, singer, filmmaker, and choreographer known for such films as An American in Paris and Singin’ in the Rain. “Mixing Spirits & Mysteries,” a virtual film and cocktail series hosted by Marc Strauss, continues via Wellfleet Preservation Hall on Wednesday, March 10th, 6 p.m. with Les Diaboliques, a French psychological horror flick directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot. It’s about the wife of a loathsome prep-school headmaster who plots her husband’s murder with the help of his mistress. Session II of Winter Whenevers begins virtually on Monday, March 1. Marc Strauss teaches “The Definitive James Bond: Connery … Sean Connery” on Mondays, 6 to 8 p.m. It will include six weeks of screenings with introductions and post-film discussions via Zoom. The films are Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, and Never Say Never Again.

The Open University of Wellfleet has announced its virtual spring courses, now available for registration at openuniversityofwellfleet.org. They include “Stephen Sondheim, Songwriter,” with Marc Strauss; “Great Printmakers in New England,” with Lewis Shepard; “Comparing Plays of Recollection by Eugene O’Neill and Brian Friel,” with Steve Reynolds; “Here Comes Dickens!” with Rhoda Flaxman; “Politics in Fiction and Film: Lost in Translation,” with Linda B. Miller; and “Studying the ArtStranders,” with Grace Hopkins.
Hopkins’s course will take place Tuesdays beginning April 20, 10 a.m. to noon. “The artStrand gallery was a unique endeavor in Provincetown from 2005 to 2016,” writes Hopkins in the course description. “It was a gallery owned and operated by the artists, rather than a single owner, a director, or a collective.” There were six male and six female artists, all of them still active today: Breon Dunigan, Maryalice Johnston, Irene Lipton, Sarah Lutz, Anna Poor, Tabitha Vevers, Bailey Bob Bailey, Paul Bowen, Jay Critchley, Jim Peters, Daniel Ranalli, and Bert Yarborough.

They include “Remembering the Long Point Gallery” with Grace Hopkins, “Confronting Capitalism” with George Swope, and “The Dance Artistry of Busby Berkeley” with Marc Strauss.
The course on the Long Point Gallery will take place Wednesday mornings starting January 6th. The gallery, which became an important force in Provincetown, was founded in 1977 by 13 Cape Cod artists. Grace Hopkins, director of the Berta Walker Gallery, is the daughter of Long Point founder Budd Hopkins and the art critic and historian April Kingsley.

The Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater is presenting a virtual series of all of Fred Astaire’s 31 movie musicals from 1933 to 1968 on successive Fridays at 7 p.m., from Sept. 4 through April 2, 2021. The series is hosted on Zoom by Marc Strauss, who will introduce and screen the films, then lead a discussion afterword. Fifty percent of the proceeds will benefit WHAT. Tickets are available by the month (four or five screenings) for $30, or $200 for all 31 films. The schedule through the end of October appears as listed below:
