Adams Sentenced to 14 Years
Eleven years ago, Kerry Adams denied that he had exposed himself to a young man at the Knights of Columbus. Adams, then a school committee member, said the boy fabricated the story, and in 2012, the indecent exposure charge was dropped.
On July 22, Adams, 61, was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to distribution, receipt, and possession of child pornography, according to a press release from the U.S. District Attorney’s Office.
A months-long investigation by local and federal investigators ended with Adams’s arrest in 2019 after hundreds of incriminating files were found on his computer, “including images of two children known to him,” the release stated.
Along with his earlier sexual misconduct charge, Kerry evaded charges of larceny over $1,200 when, in 2018, he was arrested in a $155,000 fraud scheme. That case was dropped in July 2019 because witnesses would not cooperate.
In that case, Adams allegedly stole $125,000 from one victim and $30,000 from Barry Clifford, who had been a client at Fireside Insurance Agency, which Adams owned. —K.C. Myers
East End Park Plans
The recreation dept. is hosting a community planning event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, at the East End Waterfront Park at 387-395 Commercial St. Part of a continuing effort to solicit community input on the new park’s design, the event will be “open house style,” so that people can come by at any time during the four-hour period.
The design firm Weston and Sampson is helping the town with community engagement and feedback. The event will be held outdoors at the park and the organizers will be masked, according to the rec. dept. —Paul Benson
Select Board Reversal Blues
The select board’s decision to remove all the Expedition Blue: Waypoints installations prompted questions about who approved the process in the first place. It turns out that the select board did, unanimously, in the fall, said Bert Jackson, director of community engagement for the Cape Cod Blue Economy Foundation.
After an initial meeting in the fall of 2019 at which David Abramson, then-Harbormaster Rex McKinsey, and Shellfish Constable Steve Wisbauer were all present, McKinsey and Wisbauer were to be the contact people for the town going forward, Jackson said. Provincetown had a less stringent permitting process than in many other towns, he added. The most vital piece of the green light was a signed commitment letter, which the foundation received from then-Town Administrator Robin Craver in May 2020. Despite this, the select board voted this month to remove the installations.
“We are certainly very disappointed,” said Jackson. “But that doesn’t mean that we’re not hoping something can be done. We’re still very committed to Provincetown.” —Sophie Hills
