Gary Zack is the “artist in the spotlight” this week at the Hutson Gallery in Provincetown. A virtual exhibit of his work, titled “Color in Nature,” is viewable at hutsongallery.net through February 11th.
Zack is a self-taught artist who also works in glass. This sensibility can be seen in his paintings, which are so layered and textural that they are almost three-dimensional. In his series of paintings of water lilies, reminiscent of those by Monet, he uses jewel tones. Zack’s “sense of layering and color placement gives the painting real depth so that it is no longer a ‘still life,’ ” says the gallery announcement.
