Two shows of paintings — by Gwen Murphy and Paul Pedulla — are running concurrently at AMZehnder Gallery, 25 Bank Street #3 in Wellfleet, through Tuesday, Aug. 3. Murphy paints surrealist fantasies — lithe female figures and princesses in long dresses, cavorting at the beach or underwater, often accompanied by a menagerie of wolves, cats, birds, and fishes. “I am interested in the vulnerability of humans and other beings,” says Murphy, “and in the humor and pathos that arise from this vulnerability.” Pedulla paints the façades of lone cottages — as well as long, winding roads set against a backdrop of sand, sea, and sky — paring everything down to simple geometry and local color. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily except Wednesdays.
