Photographer Greg Salvatori’s latest exhibition, “SAILS: No Storm Is Forever,” opens at Greg Salvatori Gallery, 237 Commercial St. in Provincetown, on Friday, July 16th and runs through July 31st. There is an opening night reception at 7 p.m.
Male figures — mostly nude, some clad in Pilgrim costumes — hang from a series of ropes before a backdrop of rugged canvas sails. They’re a metaphor for weathering the storm of Covid, says the photographer, as the figures attempt to control nature’s fury.
The sails in the photographs come from Salvatori’s late father’s boat. “In the years after his parents’ divorce,” says the press release, “Greg was forbidden to see his father, so meeting on the boat and spending the day together was a way to avoid people who might report to his mother or other members of the religious cult she was part of.”
