If you’ve swung by the Wellfleet skate park recently, you may have noticed something different around the harbor.
On April 27th, artists Adam O’Day, Shane Leonard, Andrew Jacob, Pete Cosmos, Felipe Ortiz, Stephen Wells, and Dominique Pecce painted a multi-part graffiti mural on the ramps. Children, some clutching tiny skateboards, looked on in awe. The collaboration was part of a 10-day artist residency at the Rugosa Boutique Guest House in Eastham.
Jacob says he coordinated with the Wellfleet Recreation Dept., which was originally planning on removing old graffiti from the ramps. But, says Jacob, “the only way to eradicate graffiti is to have more graffiti.” Joey Rugo, owner of the guest house, says that, at the moment, the residency is for “friends of friends,” but he hopes to open it up to the public. —Saskia Maxwell Keller
