Estelle Rose White Nadel died peacefully at home in Wellfleet on Dec. 18, 2020, just a few weeks shy of her 95th birthday. Her family was at her side.

Every year, Estelle traveled from her winter home in Boynton Beach, Fla. to spend spring, summer, and fall on the Outer Cape. Here she became part of a community that grew to know and love her as a sweet, kind, and compassionate mother, grandmother, and friend.

In 2005, Estelle lost the love of her life, her husband, Emanuel “Manny” Nadel, but her spirit was strong, and she continued to grow as an individual. At 90, she became an avid reader for the first time in her life. Her passion for the works of Alexander McCall Smith led the writer to send her a signed book, thanking her for being his “biggest fan.”

Every week, Estelle volunteered at the AIM Thrift Shop in Wellfleet, always in her purple or lavender outfits, helping to price all the goods that were donated — except for sheets. She wouldn’t do sheets. Estelle was also an avid Mah Jongg player, playing with the same group of younger friends for 15 years. They laughed at her stories while she amazed them with her ability to play the most difficult hands and win.

She was famous for her rugelach, latkes (which she taught her daughter, Deborah, to make in the traditional family style), and onion cookies.

Estelle enjoyed her life to the fullest and shared her joy and happiness with all who knew her. Loved ones will remember her when they see the color purple, and wearing purple will be their homage to her.

Estelle is survived by her daughter, Deborah Nadel Magee, and son-in-law Fred Magee of Wellfleet; and her son, Craig Nadel, and daughter-in-law Michelle Stein Nadel of Montville, N.J. She is also survived by her grandsons, Joshua Magee and wife Carly Amarant; Travis Magee and wife Kimberly Rose Dooley; Jesse Nadel; and Ethan Nadel and wife Rebecca.
