“Near and Far” is a show of paintings by husband-and-wife Elliot Paul Rothman and Martha Leibowitz Rothman at Wellfleet Preservation Hall, 335 Main St., running through Sept. 23. The show, curated by Megan Hinton and Susie Nielsen, contains works collected from 57 years of partnership, depicting travels to Cuba and India, as well as scenes closer to home in Wellfleet.
The Rothmans’ backgrounds in architecture give the works structure and a robust presence born from curious minds. Martha works in pastel and watercolor, capturing Wellfleet’s unique light with an abstract specificity. Elliot is primarily a watercolorist, sometimes experimenting with charcoal. He works onsite to produce a visual diary of his travels, paying close attention to shifts in the world around him, buried in shadow or revealed through light. There will be a reception on Wednesday, Sept. 1, from 4 to 6 p.m.
