“Man on the Marsh,” an exhibit of paintings by Ed Chesnovitch, is on view at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, 60 Hope Lane in Dennis, through February 7th. There will be a virtual winter reception on January 7th, with registration at ccmoa.org.
The exhibition is inspired by the marshy landscape of Scorton Creek in East Sandwich, where Chesnovitch lives. “The marsh can be both invigorating and peaceful, mysterious and magnificent, placid yet teaming with energy and life” writes Chesnovitch in his artist statement. A place of renewal, it is also full of “odd smells and uncanny gurgling sounds.”
The works are oils, pastels, and mixed media on canvas. Chesnovitch is highly influenced by color theory, writing, “The late afternoon light of a cold October day pouring across the golden marsh grass, or the quiet hush of an early morning bathed in soothing pinks … it all thrills me.”
