Thrift Store Rescue?
On Monday, Nov. 1, the select board went into executive session to “consider the purchase, exchange, lease, or value” of two properties, including the COA Thrift Store building at 580 Massasoit Road.
The building, which is owned by Donald and Virginia Delaney, will soon be listed for sale. For 37 years, it has been home to the thrift shop run by volunteers from the Friends of the Council on Aging. A Delaney family member currently lives in a second-floor apartment in the building, but will soon be moving out.
According to town records, the property is assessed at $334,000.
Free Brush Dumping to Nov. 13
Eastham is temporarily bending the rules at the transfer station as residents continue to clean up from the nor’easter that hit on Oct. 27.
Until Saturday, Nov. 13, residents can bring brush from the storm to the transfer station and dump it into a container set up there. Alternatively, residents can pick up a voucher from the booth and drive it to Murphy’s (a.k.a. Brewster Sand & Gravel), located at 2740 Nauset Road, near the water tank. Murphy’s is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The transfer station is closed on Thursday and Friday and opens at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Residents will have to show either a dump sticker or some other proof of residency and are limited to one pickup truck load of brush. —Cam Blair
