Donna Marie Thomas died at her home in Yarmouth on May 8, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was 67.

Donna was born on March 5, 1958 at Cape Cod Hospital to the late Nora and Donald Thomas. Her father was well known as Provincetown’s “Dancing Cop.” The Thomases lived in a house belonging to her grandmother Annie at 39 Bradford St. In 1969, the family moved to 5A Atlantic Ave., where the famous Thomas hospitality left lasting impressions on anyone who entered.
Donna was a campfire girl in elementary school. At Provincetown High School, she excelled in math and history, was in the ski club and on the prom committee, and was voted to have the prettiest eyes and to be the class heartbreaker in the Long Pointer yearbook.
After graduating in 1976, she spent time with friends in Florida before returning home. She became a lively member of the restaurant and bar scene in Provincetown, working at the Cottage restaurant and at the Moors as a prep cook and waitress before moving to bartending downstairs in the Jug Rum alongside Lenny Grandchamp on piano. Later, she became the grumpy yet much admired bartender at the Provincetown VFW. That’s where she met her life partner, Wayne Earnest.
In 2001, Donna, her parents, and Wayne moved to Eastham. She worked at various restaurants, including Captain Elmer’s in Orleans, and helped raise several children.
Donna enjoyed music, gardening, beaches, and thunderstorms (which she called “thundaboomas”) and was an excellent cook, especially of porco em pau and kale soup.
She had a distinct Provincetown accent and a lexicon all her own.
Donna leaves her daughter, Carmen Thomas; a granddaughter, Razilee Mueller; her brother, Steven Thomas; her partner, Wayne Earnest; Keezie, her cat; and many friends, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on June 7 at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown, where Donna was baptized and had her first communion and confirmation. The family asks that donations in her memory be made to any worthy charity.
