A former salon owner-turned-sculptor, Jackie Fuchs is showing new works at Gallery 444, 444 Commercial St. in Provincetown, through August 11th. There are also works by CON$UMR, Theodora Sacknoff, Jacinthe Rivard, and Katarina Kubicova.
Fuchs’s collages place tall, lithe figures with Modigliani-like necks in interior spaces that exploit one- and two-point perspective. With nods to cubism and cartoons, they’re whimsical scenes of figures and furniture that feel theatrical, like a still from a movie or sitcom. “My work evolves organically,” says Fuchs in a statement. “It is as if I am channeling a story that I don’t remember consciously, though I am always cutting magazines in preparation for the next work of art.” The gallery is open daily, with a reception on Friday, July 23rd from 7 to 10 p.m.
