Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, Aug. 31 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
That American Avocet sighted last week was still present and seen by many at High Head in Truro this week. Razorbills were also seen at High Head in Truro.
Sightings at Race Point in Provincetown this week included 2 Baird’s Sandpipers, a Pectoral Sandpiper, 3 Parasitic Jaegers, 2 Lesser Black-Backed Gulls, 3 Black Skimmers, 4 Black Terns, 800 Roseate Terns, 1,200 Common Terns, a Razorbill, 17 Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, 200 Great Shearwaters, 9 Sooty Shearwaters, 65 Manx Shearwaters, 120 Northern Gannets, a Great Cormorant, 25 Horned Larks, and 3 Purple Martins.
A Black Guillemot was reported from Provincetown Harbor. Razorbills were reported from there as well.
Birds seen at the Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary included a Little Blue Heron, 3 Western Sandpipers, 6 White-Rumped Sandpipers, 37 Forster’s Terns, and 2 Great Horned Owls.
Elsewhere in Wellfleet, someone saw a Pine Siskin.
Nobody saw anything in Eastham.
