The carmine leaves of a beach plum provide one last display in a garden in Provincetown’s East End. A three-season shrub, Prunus maritima will wow again in the spring with a display of white blossoms that comes when the surrounding landscape looks bare. Then in late summer comes its edible harvest. Native to Cape Cod, the beach plum makes an excellent ornamental addition that looks at home in the garden while providing nectar for the bees and fruit for the foragers. —Joe Beuerlein
