ORLEANS — The Nauset School District’s Superintendent Search Committee announced on Tuesday the dates and times of public forums with three remaining finalists. The announcement followed Sara Ahern’s Jan. 12 withdrawal from the competition after she accepted the job of superintendent for the Barnstable Public Schools.
The Barnstable Patriot reported that Barnstable’s five-member school board voted 3-1, with one member abstaining, to offer Ahern the position over two other finalists. The article also reported that Ahern accepted the offer by phone “within minutes of the announcement Wednesday … pending contract negotiations.”
“Please know how mixed my feelings are,” Ahern said in an email statement addressed to families in Franklin, where she is now the school superintendent. “I am very excited about this personal and professional opportunity. On the other hand, I am already mourning a departure from Franklin — a place where I am so proud of the students, faculty, staff, administration, and families. I truly cherish the relationships I have developed with people in this community.”
The remaining Nauset finalists are Brooke Clenchy, the interim superintendent of the Nauset Public Schools; Andrea Schwamb, assistant superintendent in Wareham; and Frank Tiano, interim middle school principal in the Dover-Sherborn Regional School District and a former superintendent in Chelmsford and then in Uxbridge.
The three finalists will participate in public forums via Zoom, during which parents, staff, and community members will be able to ask questions.
Clenchy’s forum will take place on Monday, Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m.; Tiano’s on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m.; and Schwamb’s on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 6:30 p.m.
The Zoom link — which will be the same for each meeting — will be posted on the Nauset district’s website. Participants can share impressions and thoughts on the candidates after the meetings through a feedback form that will also be posted on the district website.
