Arlene B. (Dunn) Reed, who lived at Provincetown’s Seashore Point Wellness Center for six years, died on Sept. 16, 2024. The cause was acute respiratory distress with underlying chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was 89.
Arlene was born in Boston on Dec. 20, 1934 to the late George S. Dunn and Ruth A. Cooper and lived in the South End, Roxbury, and Dorchester. She moved to Dedham when her mother married John Cooper, and she graduated from Dedham High School in 1952. After she married, she spent most of her life in Norwood. She worked as a telephone operator, a server, and a certified nursing assistant at several nursing homes. She enjoyed her cats (too numerous to name), her birds (Mr. Darby and Jewel), her daily Herald, her Salem Slim Light 100s, and a good meal.
Arlene is survived by her three sons: Robert S. Reed and wife Julie of Cumberland, R.I., Rickey B. Reed and wife Diane of San Diego, Calif., and Barry S. Reed of Los Angeles; her siblings: John S. Dunn of Bradenton, Fla., Donna R. Cooper of Provincetown, and Beverly Kuhn of Bellingham; and five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her stepfather, John Cooper, and one brother, William G. Dunn.
Her family expressed gratitude to the Seashore Point staff for the kind and attentive care Arlene received. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may go to the Carrie A. Seaman Animal Shelter in Provincetown.
