Health Care Cuts
To the editor:
The troubles this administration is visiting on us are cruel and frightening. As Paul Benson reports on the front page of your July 17 issue, we’ll all feel the effects of losing Medicaid as our health-care lifeline, Outer Cape Health Services, is deprived of funds.
The Republican budget cuts Medicaid and CHIP (the Children’s Health Insurance Program) by over a trillion dollars. Instead, it allocates 170 billion for “customs enforcement,” including 45 billion for the building of detention camps. “Alligator Alcatraz,” as inhumane as its name sounds, is one.
This has nothing to do with saving money or eliminating “waste.” CNBC estimates that the federal deficit will grow by 3.4 trillion thanks to the budget bill. And immigrants, documented or otherwise, have been propelling our economy for some time. It does not cost billions to remove the criminals among them (although so far no one in ICE’s dragnet has committed as many felonies as President Trump). Biden was deporting more people than Trump with a much lower budget.
The Republicans’ intention is to harm and kill people — the oldest, the youngest, and the sickest through medical denial, and many, many others, considering the amount of money allotted, by persecution.
Benson gives a great explanation of how the medical side will work in our little communities. And the Trump administration also put medical debt back into everyone’s credit reports, which will impoverish thousands.
To think that a year ago we lived in a prosperous country whose government was working against this shockingly corrupt right wing and for the people on every front. Every one of us has to pull together now to save each other from what the last election wrought.

Stop the Bashing
To the editor:
Please cancel my subscription. My reason may be of no interest to you, but I could not take another week or edition of the constant Trump bashing. Enough already.
He will go down as one of the greatest presidents of our time once his four years are up and the Democrats’ (and some Republicans’) corruption in Washington, D.C. has been completely exposed and dealt with.
I may not like him personally, but he is doing or at least trying to do what I voted for. Sorry if this does not agree with your agenda. It’s called freedom of speech, which the liberals/progressives abhor unless you agree with them.
If anyone deserves to be in prison, it’s the Clintons, the Bidens, and the Obamas for the crap they have pulled off. Maybe you should look into this someday. But then again you would lose your brainwashed (TDS) base.
