The son of John Lambrou Jr. and Mary (Silva) Lambrou, John was born at Cape Cod Hospital on Jan. 7, 1955. He grew up in Provincetown and attended Provincetown High School, where he played football and met Cynthia Roderick. He graduated in 1974; he and Cynthia married in 1977, and they were inseparable for 47 years.
While still in high school, Mark began volunteering as a firefighter for the Provincetown department along with a few of his friends. He served for 49 years, responding to every major Provincetown fire, including the Feb. 10, 1998 blaze that destroyed Whalers Wharf and the Crown & Anchor.
After high school, he attended a trade school in Boston to qualify as an oil-burner technician. He then began a 40-year career with Cape Cod Oil starting in 1974, the same year the company was purchased by Michael and Halcyone Tasha. A dedicated employee, he was both hardworking and kind to customers as a technician, an oil truck driver, and eventually a company manager.
When oil prices rose, making it difficult for some to afford heating fuel, Mark was the one to work out a payment plan or even write off the bill.
“He was especially understanding with his elderly customers,” his son Lucas said. “And he treated everyone well, both strangers and friends.” Mark retired in 2018.
Mark’s deepest loyalty was to family and friends, and his strength and protective character are missed by his wife and children. His boys were proud of their father’s work ethic, consistency, and reliability.
Mark enjoyed vacations with family and close friends, loved to laugh, and loved making others laugh. He’d wear odd clothes and funny costumes, even when it was not Halloween, just for fun. There was almost nothing he wouldn’t do to make someone smile, family members said.

After his retirement, Mark was often seen riding through town with his dog, Kita, a great Pyrenes-Siberian husky mix. The two were inseparable. Kita kept him moving and was as social as he was. When he’d greet someone, Kita would chime in with a howl.
Mark loved life and lived it on his own terms. “We are grateful to have known such a fine, generous, compassionate, and funny man,” the family wrote. “He touched many lives with his kindness, good will, and exuberant sense of humor.”
Mark is survived by his wife, Cindy Lambrou of North Truro; his sons, Lucas and wife Jessica Lambrou of Chester, N.H. and Trevor Lambrou of Manchester, N.H.; his mother, Mary Lambrou of Provincetown; his sisters, Stacey and husband Al Desrosiers of St. Albans, Maine, Terri Lambrou, and Jill Lambrou, both of Provincetown; his brothers, Jon Lee Lambrou of Brewster and Paul Lambrou of Provincetown; his mother in-law, Regina Costa of Wellfleet; his brothers-in-law, John and wife Patricia Roderick of Truro and Ryan and wife Christine Roderick of Cherryfield, Maine; his sisters-in-law, Jean Leonard of Wellfleet and Claudia Hopkins of West Harwich; and 12 nieces and nephews.
Mark was predeceased by his father, John Lambrou Jr; his father in-law, Mylan Costa; and his brothers-in-law Kevin Roderick and Craig Hopkins.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown, where Mark had served as an altar boy, on Jan. 25, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mark’s honor can made to Cape Cod Cares for the Troops.
