Jean Gail Rose died peacefully at home in Wellfleet on July 6, 2024. She was 84 and had been living with dementia. “She was the strongest person,” attentive, loving, and always active, said her son, Ken.
Jean was the daughter of Edward and Catherine (King) Bogolawski. She was born in Weymouth on April 8, 1940 and grew up in Provincetown and Truro.
At Provincetown High School she served on the yearbook business staff for two years and was voted most popular in the class of 1958. She enrolled in the Mansfield Beauty Academy, graduating in 1959.
She worked at Dora’s Beauty Shop on Briar Lane in Wellfleet for many years. She met Kenneth L. Rose in Wellfleet, and the couple bonded on the golf course and married on Oct. 8, 1960.
Jean excelled at making her customers feel special, a skill that served her well as a mother. With a growing family, she continued to work as a beautician part-time and devoted herself to her family.
During their 38-year marriage, she enjoyed traveling with her Ken to Las Vegas and other places, often with the late Richard and Lois Rose.
Jean dabbled in ceramics and enjoyed aerobics, gardening, watching her grandchildren play sports, chatting with her friend Judy Rhodes, and listening to country singer Alan Jackson.
In recent years, she could be found most mornings hanging out with her gang at Dunkin’ Donuts, and she talked often of her time spent on Ballston Beach and Mayo Beach.
A fan of Tom Brady during his glory years, Jean managed to procure an autographed helmet and dreamed that one day Brady would drop by. Her biggest disappointment was that Brady never showed up for dinner. Apparently, he was too busy on most Sundays.
Jean is survived by her children, Janet Rose of Wellfleet, Ken Rose and partner Jon Krongard, and Kevin Rose and partner Lynn Mulkeen; grandchildren Josh Waters of Eastham and Ashleigh, Benjamin, and Camryn Rose of Wellfleet; great-grandchildren Austen and Ansel Waters of Eastham; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves hundreds of teddy bears.
She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth L. Rose, daughter Karen (Rose) Waters, son Brian Rose, sisters Kathleen Holmberg and Brenda Martinez, brothers Joseph Bogolawski and Arthur Joseph Jr., and grandson Jason Waters.
The family would like to acknowledge the friendship and kindness of Jean’s many caregivers, especially Jennifer Brown of Dennis and Janice Silva of Harwich.
An interment service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday July 17 at Oakdale Cemetery in Wellfleet.
