Alberta M. Romano of Provincetown died on Dec. 15, 2021 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a brief illness. She was 81.
Born in New Haven, Conn., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Marie (Cusano) Romano.
In 1977, Berta moved to Provincetown and quickly met , the love of her life, Carole A. Whitman. Carole owned the Dusty Miller Inn, which they managed together. The two were among the first members of the Women Innkeepers of Provincetown, which hosts the annual Provincetown Women’s Week in mid-October. Carole died in 2002.
Berta was also an owner at the Bay Colony Condominiums, where she became a trustee and manager.
She spent many hours volunteering for causes in the community. She graduated from Provincetown’s Community Oriented Policing Academy and served on the town’s board of assessors, the charter change commission, and the Friends of the Council on Aging. In 2001, Berta was recognized as Provincetown Senior Citizen of the Year.
Berta was devoted to family and was also well loved by her extended family at the Bay Colony Condominums.
She was an avid fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
Berta is survived by a sister, Linda Fox of North Branford, Conn., by many nieces and nephews, and by her special longtime friends, Gerard and Kathy Menangas of Provincetown.
Her sisters, Marge and Elaine, and a brother, John, predeceased her.
At Berta’s request, there will be no service. A celebration of her life will be held at a date and time to be announced.
