Kathleen Gonsalves of Truro died peacefully at her home on Nov. 11, 2021, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 72.
Born in Hyannis, she was the daughter of the late Jean G. and John V. Perry of Truro. She graduated in 1968 from Provincetown High School, where she was a four-year member of the Glee Club. In her high school yearbook, The Long Pointer, she declared her ambition “to be myself and do as I please.” That translated in her life to an enthusiasm for cooking and a desire to help others.
Kathy was well known for her skill in the kitchen. Her passion for cooking led to many years of employment in restaurants, including the Donut Shop (on the site of the former Hole in One Coffee Shop and the present Chach’s Mexican Take Out in Provincetown), Michael Shay’s Restaurant in Provincetown, the Village Café in North Truro, and St. Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown, where she cooked for the priests and helped with the Kitchen Angels. Anyone who stopped by her house to say hello never left hungry or without a plate of food.
Back in the day you could find her driving the town loop. She loved dancing and always had her dancing scarf.
At Christmas, Kathy would make her rounds with her husband, Moe, delivering homemade treats to family and friends. She was the life of the party and loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Maurice Gonsalves of Truro; her daughter, Lisa Roach of Truro; her sister, Jacquelyne Mastrianna of Brewster; her two grandchildren, Alan Roach of Truro and Courtney Roach of Boston; and her favorite of all, her great-granddaughter, Adelinegrace Roach of Boston. She is also survived by nephew Bryan Williams and great-nephew Alex Williams, both of South Dennis; by her adopted daughter, Sheva Russell-Browne, and adopted granddaughter, Kaitlyn Russell; and by many cousins. She was predeceased by a nephew, Eric Williams of Truro.
At Kathy’s request, there will be no services.
Donations in Kathy’s name may be made to the Truro Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2013, Truro 02666.
