Carmela “Millie” Slattery died on Feb. 28, 2021 at Seashore Point Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Provincetown. She was 90.
One of five sisters, she was born in Ozone Park, N.Y. to the late Giovannina and Aniello Prevete. A star athlete in high school, she lettered in basketball, volleyball, softball, and badminton. After graduation, she went to work for New York Telephone. Her entire 33-year career was spent with the telephone company in many different supervisory positions. She retired from Verizon in 1984.
She moved from Yorktown Heights, N.Y. to Provincetown in 2011 to be near her daughter, who owned and operated Wampum etc., a jewelry store on Commercial Street. In Provincetown, she made many friends, was a passionate bridge player, and was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Parish.
In addition to her daughter, Judy Ann Slattery of Provincetown, she is survived by two sisters, Louise Ann Decker and Antoinette Bruno, as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families and friends. She is deeply missed by all that knew her.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8 at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. All Covid protocols in place at that time will be observed.
