Damian Joseph Silva, 20, of Wellfleet, died unexpectedly on June 24, 2020. No cause of death was given.
He was the son of Cassandra Silva and the older brother of Raina Walters, both of Wellfleet.
Born on Cape Cod, Damian attended Eastham Elementary School and graduated from Nauset Regional High School. He was pursuing online accredited college courses in anatomy and the functioning of the brain. He was often found reading and furthering his knowledge of neuroscience and metaphysics.
Damian was the creator and founder of the nonprofit World Suck Oblideration Corporation. Sales were made through “love is love” bracelets, and all profits were sent to the vlogger brothers John and Hank Green, founders of the Foundation to Decrease World Suck, to help provide underprivileged children with computers. Damian worked at Stop & Shop in Orleans, where many will recall his thoughtful conversations.
Those who knew Damian knew his giving and kind ways. Knowledgeable and soft-spoken, he had a great sense of humor and love of music. He was selfless and compassionate, respectful, and a dedicated worker. As thoughtful as he was, he had the ability to balance sarcasm and mystery.
Music was a comfort to Damian. He listened to Cat Stevens, the Lumineers, Blind Melon, and the Shins. He enjoyed the simplest of moments, such as listening and softly singing to music with his sister and pet bunny, Winnie.
In addition to his mother and sister, he is survived by his grandmothers, Kelly Holway-Ruml and Carole DeStefano, and his great-grandmother Marguerite Holway. He also leaves his uncles Brandon Silva, Timothy Silva, Jeremy Storer, Zachary Storer, and Ian Ruml; and aunts Carly Souza, Kiah Ruml, and Annie Storer. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Timothy Charles Silva and Russell Holway.
Due to the Covid-19 health crisis, the immediate family will gather for a private celebration of Damian’s life. Arrangements for a larger service for Damian will be postponed until it is deemed safe, at a time and date to be announced.
