Suzanne Mary O’Loughlin died peacefully on Feb. 4, 2020 at her home in Slingerlands, N.Y. after a short illness. She was 67.
Born in Methuen on August 27, 1952, she grew up in North Andover and graduated from Presentation of Mary Academy before continuing on to the Mass. General Hospital School of Nursing, where she became an R.N. She then received her B.S.N. from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine and became a nurse practitioner through the Albany Medical College Nurse Practitioner program. She worked at Holy Family Hospital, Mass. General, and C.C.P. in Latham, N.Y. for over 30 years.
Starting in the 1970s, Suzanne and her family visited Provincetown at least twice a year, where they made numerous friends. They often stayed with the Donald Murphys and the Gilmans, among others.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Francis O’Loughlin, and by a cherished uncle, Vincent O’Leary. She is survived by her husband, Paul Mercaitis of Slingerlands; her son, Dr. Orion Mercaitis; her elder sister, Dorothy Seed; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, coworkers, and patients.
“She loved visiting Provincetown, the ocean, and her garden,” wrote her son, Orion. “Although grief fills the room up with her loss, there is solace in knowing she was beloved.”
