Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, Sept. 17 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
Birds at Race Point in Provincetown this week included a Buff-Breasted Sandpiper, a Sabine’s Gull, a Pacific Loon, 15 Parasitic Jaegers, 3,100 Common Terns, 16 Cory’s Shearwaters, 7 Great Shearwaters, 4 Sooty Shearwaters, and 50 Manx Shearwaters. There was also a single Barn Owl in Provincetown.
A Brown Pelican has been spotted in various places at East Harbor in Truro and on the bay side of Wellfleet.
A Little Blue Heron was seen at Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary, and there were 5 Seaside Sparrows and a Nelson’s Sparrow elsewhere in Wellfleet.
