Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, June 11 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
Sightings at Race Point included a White-Rumped Sandpiper, 2 Parasitic Jaegers, a Common Murre, a Razorbill, a Black Guillemot, a Black-Legged Kittiwake, and 2 Cory’s Shearwaters. There were also 2 Great Shearwaters seen offshore on Stellwagen Bank. A Yellow-Breasted Chat continued at Provincetown Airport.
There was a single White-Eyed Vireo in Truro. Four Red Crossbills were seen in town as well.
A Sandhill Crane flew by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary on June 8. Elsewhere in Wellfleet, there were 2 Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks.
An Iceland Gull was reported from Nauset Beach.
P.S.: The American Flamingo that spent a day at Chapin Beach in Dennis last week has returned to Long Island, unfortunately.
