Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, May 14 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
Sightings at Race Point in Provincetown included at least 6 Pacific Loons, a Parasitic Jaeger, 12 Razorbills, 31 Common Murres, 2 Black-Legged Kittiwakes, an Iceland Gull, a Lesser Black-Backed Gull, 2 Roseate Terns, 4 Sooty Shearwaters, 2 Manx Shearwaters, 187 Northern Gannets, 2 Broad-Winged Hawks, and a Common Raven.
Other sightings in Provincetown included a Sora in Foss Woods, a Hooded Warbler at Clapps Pond, 2 Black Guillemots and a Glaucous Gull reported from the harbor, and a Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron and an Orange-Crowned Warbler at Beech Forest.
A Caspian Tern was reported at High Head in North Truro.
At Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary the birds this week included a Prothonotary Warbler, a Yellow-Throated Warbler, a Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker, a Black-Billed Cuckoo, 2 Red Crossbills, and a Saltmarsh Sparrow.
There were sightings of a Clay-Colored Sparrow and 2 Nelson’s Sparrows at Fort Hill in Eastham this week.
