Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, Dec. 5 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
A Western Kingbird was seen in Provincetown on Dec. 1. Also in town this week were an Eastern Phoebe and a Red Crossbill.
Sightings at Race Point included 550 Long-Tailed Ducks, 800 Red-Breasted Mergansers, a Purple Sandpiper, 23 Dovekies, a Black-Headed Gull, 200 Razorbills, 2 Common Murres, 4 Laughing Gulls, 5 Iceland Gulls, 2 Common Terns, and 40 Snow Buntings.
A Rough-Legged Hawk was spotted at High Head in North Truro. Four Tree Swallows were also seen in town.
An unidentified hummingbird turned up in a yard in Wellfleet on Dec. 5.
A late Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher lingered in Eastham.
