Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, Nov. 28 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
A nice Thanksgiving morning seabird flight at First Encounter Beach in Eastham included 40 Razorbills, 175 Dovekies, 3,410 Black-Legged Kittiwakes, a Cory’s Shearwater, 8 Great Shearwaters, 4 Sooty Shearwaters, and 2,600 Northern Gannets.
24 Tree Swallows were seen in Wellfleet.
Sightings at Race Point in Provincetown this week included a Pacific Loon, 12 Green-Winged Teals, 7,000 Common Eiders, 2,000 Black Scoters, 3,000 Red-Breasted Mergansers, 1,800 Razorbills, 9 Common Murres, a Little Gull, 55 Black-Legged Kittiwakes, 400 Bonaparte’s Gulls, a Black-Headed Gull, 17 Great Shearwaters, a Sooty Shearwater, and 1,200 Northern Gannets.
Elsewhere in Provincetown there was a Northern Parula.
