Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, Feb. 7 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
In this week’s story about avian influenza on the Outer Cape, those who keep birdfeeders are advised to remove them if susceptible species such as crows are frequenting them.
Sightings at Race Point in Provincetown included a Pacific Loon, 22 Common Murres, 5 Thick-Billed Murres, 325 Razorbills, 52 Black-Legged Kittiwakes, 2 Glaucous Gulls, 17 Iceland Gulls, and 75 Snow Buntings. An Evening Grosbeak was also reported in town.
2 White-Crowned Sparrows and a Eurasian Green-Winged Teal were seen in North Truro.
At Great Pond in Eastham there were 4 Bald Eagles, 30 Common Mergansers, 3 Double-Crested Cormorants, and a Red Crossbill. Two Marsh Wrens were also seen this week in Eastham.
