Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, May 17 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
Mass Audubon’s annual Bird-a-thon brought many birders to the area this past weekend, resulting in a lot of rare bird discoveries despite no influx of new migrants. The Outer Cape’s highlights were Mississippi Kites, seen in Provincetown. Also, a Ring-Necked Duck was reported at Beech Forest in Provincetown.
The Snowy Owl lingered in Wellfleet. And a Horned Grebe was seen in town as well.
There was a Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron in Eastham.
Truro was birdless, it seems.
