Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, Oct. 18 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
At Race Point in Provincetown, sightings this week included 8 Red Phalaropes, 4 White-Rumped Sandpipers, 2 Pomarine Jaegers, 12 Parasitic Jaegers, 21 Razorbills, 52 Black-Legged Kittiwakes, 46 Bonaparte’s Gulls, 2 Lesser Black-Backed Gulls, 345 Cory’s Shearwaters, 6 Great Shearwaters, 4 Sooty Shearwaters, 8 Manx Shearwaters, 2 Northern Harriers, 2 Common Ravens, and 6 American Pipits.
A Philadelphia Vireo and a Wood Thrush were reported in Truro.
That Brown Pelican is still around and was most recently reported at Lieutenant Island in Wellfleet.
There were one Common Nighthawk and one late Green Heron in Eastham.
