Finding New Wells
The select board plans to discuss potential sites for new freshwater wells at its next meeting on Sept. 8 — including the Walsh property in Truro, which has been the subject of repeated discussions at water and sewer board meetings.
Provincetown DPW Director Jim Vincent and Water Supt. Cody Salisbury have said the town needs to assess the best places to draw more water from the Pamet lens, and that the Walsh property, which Truro owns, could be an important well site. Truro officials have said that adding a municipal well and a 400-foot protection radius to the site could significantly limit housing development there.
Select board member Leslie Sandberg asked what other sites were being considered. “Right now, I feel like we’re flying blind, and I would like to get to these details,” she said. Chair David Abramson agreed that the board needed more information.
“If the Walsh property has the potential to be a future water source for both towns, it’s important that we don’t plan ourselves out of that option,” said Town Manager Alex Morse. “We want to make sure we take a look at that site.” —Paul Benson
