Acting Town Manager Kelly Clark’s appointment runs through July 8 — three months after former Town Manager Darrin Tangeman officially left his job and five months after Clark “assumed the duties” of the office. The select board can renew Clark’s appointment for another 90 days, but the search for a permanent town manager is now underway.
“Kelly is doing a terrific job,” said chair Sue Areson at the May 27 select board meeting. “We’re interested in getting Kelly help, but in the meantime, we’re all interested in getting this process started.”
Clark intends to apply for the town manager job. Areson said the town’s charter requires it to post the job in a trade publication and in two regional newspapers — in this case, the Cape Cod Times and the Boston Globe.
Areson suggested placing those ads immediately and seeing how many applications come in. “Based on that number, we would then determine whether to hire or what process to follow,” she said, referring to the potential for a search consultant or committee.
The board unanimously approved that plan and added “prior experience in a seasonal community” to the list of preferred qualifications.
The job posting is now online at truro-ma.gov/jobs/townmanager. The salary is listed as $190,000 and is “negotiable”; applications are due by June 13. —Aden Choate
